HOME HEALTH AIDE / HOMEMAKER SERVICES

VNAPC HOME HEALTH AIDES are Medicare certified. Under supervision of a registered nurse or therapist, they assist clients with personal care services such as hands-on bathing, shampooing, shaving, skin care, mouth care and linen changing. These activities must occupy the majority of a home health aides’ time in your home. The remainder of the time must be spent assisting with meal preparation or light housekeeping if these are assessed by the nurse or therapist to be necessary for care. Some Home Health Aides have specialized training as parent aides, rehabilitation aides and supportive care such as mental health. If you live alone, or your spouse is disabled, the aide may also provide additional tasks as assigned by the primary nurse or the therapist, depending on the situation. Home health aides do not provide any heavy housecleaning. Home Health Aides do not provide environmental restorative care.

VNAPC HOMEMAKER SERVICES are provided through the community services grant, the Veteran’s Administration or private pay. These services may include light housekeeping, personal care, shopping or laundry.

Both services are provided to Pottawattamie County, Iowa, residents only.

VNAPC HOME COMPANION PROGRAM

Companion Nutritional Care Services can provide fluid and diet monitoring, meal planning, grocery list preparation, coupon clipping, food expiration monitoring and recipe maintenance.

Companion Personal Care Services can provide a stable bath environment, help select and layout clothes, provide AM wakeup and PM tuck-in, grooming reminders/guidance and the monitoring of oral hygiene.

Companion Medication and Miscellaneous Care Services can provide medication reminders and the pickup of OTC and prescriptions, help procure and read books, magazines and religious materials, monitor overall needs and communicate with family.

Companion Respite Care Services can provide general companionship and conversation, help with calendar and mail, monitor TV viewing as needed, run errands, arrange and remind of appointments and monitor deliveries.

Companion Social Care Services canfacilitate visits with friends and neighbors, help plan outings and trips, write letters, assist with entertaining, play games, do crafts and rent and play movies.

Companion Memory Care Services can provide stimulation of mental awareness, help organize and file photos, discuss current and past events, record family history, help create and maintain scrapbook and play and discuss nostolgic music.
